About this tour

This session climbs out of the old town toward the fort on the hill above it, then comes back down to the water. You see the path change as it climbs, the fort's terrace looking out over the whole bay, and the palm-lined promenade at sea level on the way back. It moves from the highest point in town to the lowest in one session.

The climb takes a while so I keep the pace steady and stop often, then let the promenade section move faster once we are back at sea level. I answer questions about the bay's shape and the fort's history at whichever point they come up.

This suits anyone who wants both a view and a proper walk in one session. It also suits anyone trying to understand how the bay is laid out before exploring further along it.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 6 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Herceg Novi before heading out.

  2. Path to Španjola 17 min

The camera follows a steep path climbing away from the rooftops toward an Austro-Hungarian fort on the hill, and I point out how the vegetation changes the higher we climb.

  3. Španjola Fortress Terrace 17 min

From the fort's terrace, the whole bay opens out below toward its mouth, and I explain why this exact point was chosen to watch for ships long before anyone built a road up here.

  4. Šetalište Promenade 17 min

Back down at sea level, the camera follows a palm-lined path along the water toward the neighbouring town, and I point out how the walk connects two towns that used to feel much further apart.

  5. Your questions 11 min

Time to ask anything about Herceg Novi: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 5 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Lignje na žaru (grilled squid) and Meljine, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Podgorica time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

Questions about this tour

What will the session cover?

The guide walks through Herceg Novi, showing you Path to Španjola and Španjola Fortress Terrace live on camera, plus whatever else you would like to see.

What happens if my connection drops?

Rejoin with the same link within a few minutes and the guide will catch you up on anything you missed.

Can I ask the guide questions during the session, or is it a fixed script?

Anything, any time. Sessions leave room for your own questions throughout, not just at the end.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
