Kurtuluş Mosque, once a cathedral, on camera
Highlights

- A structure that changed use over time
- Clues to the building's original purpose
About this tour
This short session looks at Kurtuluş Mosque, a building originally constructed as a 19th-century Armenian cathedral. You see the tall windows and pointed arches that give away its original purpose, then the base of a former bell tower. The session focuses on how the building's use changed while its structure largely stayed the same.
I begin with a sound check outside the mosque, then we move around the exterior while you ask questions about its history. I point out the clearest architectural clues to its original purpose. At the end I send a short written note on what we discussed.
This suits anyone interested in the city's more layered religious history. It also works well paired with a session at the archaeology museum for a fuller picture.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Gaziantep before heading out.
-
Mosque Exterior 15 min
The camera looks up at the building's tall windows and pointed arches, more typical of a 19th-century church than a mosque. I explain how the building changed use over time.
-
Bell Tower Base 15 min
You see the base of a tower that once held bells before the building's conversion. I point out what remains of the original structure today.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Gaziantep: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Ali Nazik (smoked aubergine with yoghurt and lamb) and Şehitkamil, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
