Highlights

  • The square rebuilt after a 1992 fire
  • 19th-century shopfronts, pointed out
  • A short walk through the town centre
  • Everyday Cēsis, not just the castle
  • A good first look before a longer session

About this tour

This session covers the square at the centre of Cēsis and the shopping street leading off it. You see how the square was rebuilt after a 1992 fire, then walk along Rīgas iela past facades that survived from the 19th century. It is a short introduction to the town's everyday centre rather than the castle grounds.

I check sound at the square first, then walk the street at an easy pace, stopping wherever a shopfront or detail is worth a closer look. Questions come naturally as we go, and I answer what I can on the spot.

It suits anyone wanting a quick first look at the town before a longer castle session. It also works well as a standalone short visit.

Included

  • Live video walk with a local guide
  • Questions to your guide all the way
  • A short list of places to visit later

Not included

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Cesis before heading out.

  2. Vienības laukums 15 min

The camera pans the square, and I explain how it was rebuilt after a fire in 1992 without losing its old shape.

  3. Rīgas iela shopfronts 15 min

We walk the pedestrian street, and I point out which shopfronts still keep their original 19th-century facades.

  4. Your questions 7 min

Time to ask anything about Cesis: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 3 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Smoked cheese and Old Town, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Riga time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 12 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
