Up to Žaliakalnis by funicular
Highlights
- One of Europe's oldest funiculars
- A steep hill climbed since the early 1900s
- The two rivers' confluence from above
- Old town rooftops from Žaliakalnis
- A quick, different angle on Kaunas
About this tour
This short session rides one of Europe's oldest funiculars up to Žaliakalnis and finishes with the view over the old town below. You see the funicular car itself and the steep hill it has climbed since the early twentieth century, then the confluence of the two rivers from above. It is a quick way to see the city's shape from a height.
I start with a sound check at the bottom station, then ride up while explaining the funicular's history, finishing with a few minutes at the viewpoint. Questions are welcome throughout, and I send a short note afterwards on the line's history.
This suits anyone who wants a quick, different angle on Kaunas rather than a longer walk. It also works well as a short closing session after a day spent in the old town.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide
- Questions to your guide all the way
- A short list of places to visit later

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
