About this tour

This session walks Monsanto, the forest park covering a large hill on Lisbon's western edge and planted deliberately in the 1930s. You see a trail through dense pine forest, then a hilltop clearing looking back toward the city. I trained as a forester before guiding, so the trees here interest me as much as the views.

We start with a sound check on the trail, then climb to the clearing for the second stop, taking your questions about the park's planting and its trails along the way. I send a short list of what we covered once the session ends.

It suits anyone who wants Lisbon's greener, quieter side away from its historic centre, and travellers curious about the city's planned green spaces. This session covers public trails and a clearing, not any of the park's sports facilities.

Included

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Lisbon before heading out.

  2. The pine forest trail 21 min

The camera follows a trail through dense pine forest, and I explain how this entire park was planted deliberately in the 1930s rather than existing naturally.

  3. A hilltop clearing 21 min

We reach a clearing with a view back toward the city, and I point out how much greener this side of Lisbon looks compared with the historic centre.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Lisbon: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Grilled sardines (sardinhas assadas) and Belém, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Lisbon time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
