Ruins beside a church still in use
Highlights
- A basilica's scale, now ruins
- Faith continued for two thousand years
- An active church beside ancient stone
- Early Christian history, explained
- Respect kept for an active space
About this tour
This session pairs the ruins of an early Christian basilica with the smaller church still active right beside them. You see the scale of what once stood here and hear how worship on this spot has continued, in some form, for almost two thousand years. It stays respectful of an active place of worship throughout.
I walk the ruins first, explaining what the original basilica would have looked like, then move to the church exterior, lowering my voice if a service is underway. Questions about the site's long history are always welcome.
This suits anyone interested in early Christian history or church architecture. It also pairs well with the archaeological park sessions on a different day.

You see the remains of an early Christian basilica, and I explain how large the building would have appeared when it was still standing.

The camera turns to the smaller church still in active use beside the ruins, and I explain how faith on this exact spot has continued for centuries.

-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Meze and Ktima, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Nicosia time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
