Galata's whirling dervish hall
Highlights
- A circular hall built for one ceremony
- Centuries of a specific tradition
- Instruments and manuscripts on display
- A practice explained without assumptions
- Galata's quieter side
About this tour
This session moves through Galata's former whirling dervish hall, focused on the circular room built for the ceremony historically performed here. You see the layout itself and instruments and manuscripts displayed in an adjoining room. Volkan explains the ceremony's structure plainly for viewers who have never seen anything like it before.
The call opens with a sound check at the hall's entrance, then moves around the circular room before the exhibit room. Volkan answers questions simply, without assuming prior knowledge, and sends a short note afterwards.
This suits anyone curious about Sufi history and practice explained without assumptions. It also pairs well with the Rumeli Fortress session for a fuller day on Ottoman history.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
