About this tour

This session moves through Reykjavik's weekend flea market, held in a harbourside hall that mixes secondhand stalls with traditional Icelandic food producers. You see the range of goods on offer and the food stalls specifically, with explanation of preservation methods that go back generations. It stays inside the market hall, moving stall by stall at a relaxed pace.

After a short sound check at the entrance, I move through the hall stop by stop, letting stallholders' own goods sit on screen before I explain their background. I answer questions live as they come and send a short note afterwards on the market's opening hours for anyone planning a visit.

It suits anyone curious about everyday Icelandic food culture, and anyone who enjoys a market atmosphere over a formal historical walk.

Included

  • Live video session with a local guide
  • A close look at the dishes and where locals buy them
  • A short list of places and dishes to try later

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Reykjavik before heading out.

  2. The market hall stalls 15 min

The camera moves between stalls selling secondhand goods and local food, and I explain how the weekend market has run in this harbourside hall for decades.

  3. The traditional food corner 15 min

You see stalls set up specifically for Icelandic staples, and I point out fermented and dried foods that trace back to older preservation methods.

  4. Your questions 7 min

Time to ask anything about Reykjavik: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 3 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Skyr and Laugavegur, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Reykjavik time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking".
