The Kursaal's two glass cubes
Highlights
- Two glass cubes at a river mouth
- Buildings that appear to float
- An angled shape built for light
- Moneo's design, explained simply
- San Sebastián's other great landmark
About this tour
This session shows the Kursaal, Rafael Moneo's two glass cubes at the mouth of the Urumea river. You see the buildings from outside and from the riverside walkway where they appear to float above the water at certain tides. Eneko explains the architectural reasoning behind their angled, translucent design.
The walk moves between two viewpoints on the buildings, with Eneko timing the session for changing light where possible. He answers questions about the venue's role in the city's festivals as they come up.
This suits anyone interested in contemporary architecture. It also pairs well with Eneko's Peine del Viento session for two very different modern landmarks in one city.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
