About this tour
This session moves through one of the northernmost botanical gardens in the world, looking closely at plants gathered from across the Arctic and explaining why they can grow this far north at all. You see the beds and the layout of the garden with a trained botanist's eye on the details. It stays inside the garden throughout, moving slowly to let plants and setting register properly.
After a short sound check at the entrance, I move bed by bed, explaining what each planting needs and how the garden's position makes it possible before answering questions as they come. I send a short note afterwards on what is flowering through the different seasons for anyone who wants to plan a visit.
It suits anyone interested in botany and gardens, and anyone curious about how Akureyri's setting shapes what can grow here.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Akureyri before heading out.
-
The garden's northern beds 21 min
The camera moves through beds of plants gathered from across the Arctic, and I explain how the garden's collection grew from a small local project into an internationally recognised one.
-
The garden's sheltered microclimate 21 min
You see plantings that should not survive this far north, and I point out how the town's sheltered position in the fjord makes the mild microclimate possible.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Akureyri: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Geothermal rye bread and Innbær, worth a slower look.
Good to know

- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.

- Sessions run in small groups, up to 7 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
