About this tour
This session looks at where Limburg's slow-cooked food actually comes from, starting outside a kitchen known for it and ending at a butcher's stall at the market. You see the ingredients before they become a dish, rather than a finished plate, and I explain the steps in between. It is a food story told through shops and stalls, not a meal.
We move slowly along one stretch of the old town, stopping longer at the stall than the kitchen since there is more to actually look at there. I answer questions about ingredients and history as we go rather than saving them up.
It suits food-curious viewers who like knowing where a dish comes from before they try it themselves later. It also works well for anyone planning to cook the dish at home afterwards.
Included
- Live video session with a local guide
- A close look at the dishes and where locals buy them
- A short list of places and dishes to try later
Not included
- Food and drinks shown on camera

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Maastricht before heading out.
-
Traditional Kitchen Exterior 21 min
You see the outside of a kitchen still making the region's sour beef stew the slow way, and I explain how the dish gets its sweet and sour balance without stepping inside to taste it myself on camera.
-
Markt Butcher Stall 21 min
The camera moves along a butcher's stall at the market, and I point out the cuts of meat used for local stews and explain what makes them different from a standard Dutch butcher shop.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Maastricht: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Nonnevotten and Binnenstad, worth a slower look.

- Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
