Up Mount Artxanda for the whole city at once
Highlights
- A funicular running since 1915
- Bilbao's river, seen bending below
- The Guggenheim's roof from above
- A city's whole shape, in one view
- A short climb, a wide reward
About this tour
This session rides the funicular up Mount Artxanda and looks out over the whole of Bilbao from the summit. You see the city's river bending through its centre and landmarks like the Guggenheim picked out from above. Miren explains how the funicular has climbed this route since the early twentieth century.
The ascent itself runs a few minutes of quiet footage before the session settles at the main viewpoint, where Miren keeps commentary light and lets the view carry most of the time. She answers questions about the landmarks visible below as they come up.
This suits anyone who wants an overview of Bilbao before or after exploring it at street level. It also works well as a short, calm session between two busier ones.

-
Funicular ascent 15 min
The camera looks out through the funicular's window as it climbs the hillside on rails first laid in 1915, the city dropping away below.
-
Summit viewpoint 15 min
From the top, the camera turns slowly across the whole city, the river bending through the middle and the Guggenheim's roof catching the light among the rooftops.

Time to ask anything about Bilbao: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Marmitako and Casco Viejo, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
