The tower named for a small carved elephant
Highlights
- A tower named for a small carved elephant
- Fourteenth-century defences, still standing
- An unusual detail on a fortified wall
- Medieval Cagliari's old town gate
- A tower with a story worth explaining
About this tour
This session looks at the Torre dell'Elefante, a fourteenth-century defensive tower named for a small carved elephant on its outer wall. You see the tower's scale and the carving itself up close. The camera stays on the public street around the tower throughout.
I start with the tower's role in the old town's defences, then move in close on the carved elephant and what is known about its origin. I take questions throughout and send a short note on the tower's history afterwards.
It suits anyone interested in medieval fortification or unusual architectural details. It also pairs well with the Roman amphitheatre session for more of the city's ancient history.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
