Gavino Mereu

I studied archaeology and worked briefly cataloguing Roman finds around Cagliari before I started guiding on camera. I like showing the Torre dell'Elefante up close, pointing out the small carved elephant on its wall that gave the tower its name, then explaining how the fortification fit into the old town's defences. From there I usually move to the Roman amphitheatre, partly cut directly into the rock, and explain what is known about how it was used. I have guided here for six years and still notice new details in the old stone most weeks.
