An amphitheatre cut directly into the rock

About this tour
This session looks at Cagliari's Roman amphitheatre, unusual for having much of its seating cut directly into the hillside rock rather than built up. You see the rock-cut tiers and the arena floor below. The camera stays on the public viewing paths throughout.
I start with the rock-cut seating and explain how it differs from amphitheatres built entirely from stone blocks, then look down at the arena floor. I take questions throughout and send a short note on the amphitheatre's history afterwards.
It suits anyone interested in Roman engineering or ancient entertainment venues. It also pairs well with the Torre dell'Elefante session for more of the city's older history.
Included

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Cagliari before heading out.
-
The rock-cut seating 15 min
The camera shows how much of the amphitheatre's seating was carved directly into the hillside rather than built up from the ground.
-
The arena floor 15 min
Looking down at the arena floor, I explain what is known about how the space was used during the Roman period.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Cagliari: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Bottarga and Stampace, worth a slower look.
Good to know

- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
