The wooded paths of Île Sainte-Marguerite
Highlights
- A century-old avenue of eucalyptus
- A cove far quieter than the mainland
- A saltwater lake cut off long ago
- The island beyond its famous fortress
- Paths most visitors never walk
About this tour
This session follows the quieter paths of Île Sainte-Marguerite, from a century-old eucalyptus avenue to a nearly empty cove and a saltwater lake cut off from the sea long ago. You see how little of the island beyond the fort has changed and how few visitors walk this far from the boat dock. It is a slower, outdoor session built around a single stretch of island rather than its famous fortress.
We move at walking pace along the paths, stopping longer wherever the light or the water is worth it. Questions come in throughout, since the island's geology and history both invite them. A short note on the route follows the call.
This suits anyone who prefers quiet, open paths to crowded landmarks. It also pairs naturally with the Fort Royal session for a fuller picture of the island.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 6 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Cannes before heading out.
-
The eucalyptus avenue 17 min
The camera follows a long avenue of tall eucalyptus trees planted well over a century ago, their bark peeling in long strips. I explain why this species was chosen when the paths were first laid out.
-
A quiet cove 17 min
The path opens onto a small, mostly empty cove on the island's far side, water noticeably clearer than the beaches on the mainland. I point out why so few visitors make it this far from the boat dock.
-
The saltwater lake 17 min
Further along, you reach a small saltwater lake cut off from the sea centuries ago, now a still, shallow pool ringed by reeds. I explain how it formed and why it has stayed this way.
-
Your questions 11 min
Time to ask anything about Cannes: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 5 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Pan bagnat and Forville, worth a slower look.

- Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
