The cellar tunnels beneath the castle hill

- A hidden network beneath the castle
- Practical history, out of sight
- Nuremberg's underground, explained
About this tour
This session looks at the network of cellar tunnels cut into the sandstone beneath Nuremberg's castle hill. You see the entrance to the tunnels and a passage still used by local breweries for cool storage. It is a look at a hidden, practical side of the old town most visitors never see.
I move slowly through the passage, since the space is narrow and the detail on the cut stone rewards a careful look. Questions are welcome throughout, and I send a short note afterwards on the tunnels' history.
This suits anyone curious about the old town's hidden infrastructure rather than only its surface landmarks. It also pairs well with the Tiergarten session for more of Nuremberg's relationship with stone and rock.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
