  • Ksiezy Mlyn's park at its centre

About this tour

This session walks through Ksiezy Mlyn, a self-contained factory village built by industrialist Karol Scheibler for his workers. You see the original brick housing, the mill buildings that gave the settlement its purpose, and the small park at its centre. It is a close look at how one company built an entire community around itself.

We begin at the housing with a short sound check, then move stop by stop toward the mill buildings and finally the park, pausing at each to take in the scale of the place. I take questions throughout and explain the daily life the settlement was built around. A written list of the buildings follows afterwards.

It suits anyone interested in industrial history beyond the usual factory museum. It also pairs well with a session on Manufaktura for a fuller picture of how Lodz's textile industry organised itself.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 6 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Lodz before heading out.

  2. Ksiezy Mlyn worker housing 17 min

The session opens on a row of original brick housing built for factory workers, and I explain how the whole settlement was designed and owned by a single industrialist.

  3. Scheibler's mill buildings 17 min

We move to the old mill buildings nearby, and you see the scale of the factory that once employed most of the families living in the housing next to it.

  4. Ksiezy Mlyn park 17 min

From the small park at the centre of the settlement, the camera looks back across the whole village, and I point out details that show how self-contained it once was.

  5. Your questions 11 min

Time to ask anything about Lodz: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 5 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Pierogi and Ksiezy Mlyn, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Warsaw time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
