Highlights
- A lighthouse built from a warship
- A memorial to the First World War
- The Carso plateau, seen from above
- Trieste's famous winter wind, explained
- History and landscape, on one hill
About this tour
This session covers the Faro della Vittoria, a lighthouse and war memorial above Trieste, and the Carso plateau behind it. You see the lighthouse, built using material from an old Austrian warship, then move to a viewpoint over the limestone plateau, known for its strong winter winds. It is a short session on memory and landscape on the edge of the city.
We start with a sound check facing the lighthouse, since the hilltop can be windy even on calm days. I move to the viewpoint for the second stop and take your questions about the memorial or the plateau as we go. A short reading note follows by message afterwards.
It suits anyone with an interest in twentieth-century history or the landscape around Trieste. It also works well paired with a session at Miramare Castle further along the coast.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
