About this tour

This session walks the Dubrovnik city walls at opening time, before the old town fills up. The camera follows the nearly two kilometre circuit up to Minčeta tower, along the stretch above the old harbour and the Revelin fortress where repaired rooftops still mark the shelling of 1991 and 1992, then down into the Franciscan cloister and the Rector's Palace. It shows the walls both as a view and as a record of what the city has survived.

The call opens with a sound check, then follows the walls in the order they are walked, with the guide taking questions between stops rather than only at the close. A short list of what to look for on the rooftops follows once the call ends.

This suits anyone planning to walk the walls themselves and wanting to know what to look for, and anyone interested in how recent history sits alongside the mediaeval stonework. It also suits someone who simply wants the view without the climb.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 7 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Dubrovnik before heading out.

  2. City walls and Minčeta tower 21 min

Walking the nearly two kilometres of wall before the crowds arrive, the camera climbs to Minčeta, the highest point on the circuit, for a first look down over the whole old town.

  3. Old harbour and rooftops 21 min

From the wall above the old harbour and the Revelin fortress, the camera looks down over the rooftops, and the guide points out repaired tiles still marking where shells landed in 1991 and 1992.

  4. Franciscan cloister and Rector's Palace 21 min

Down from the walls, the camera moves into the quiet stone cloister of the Franciscan monastery before reaching the Rector's Palace, once the seat of the old Republic of Ragusa.

  5. Your questions 14 min

Time to ask anything about Dubrovnik: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 6 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Crni rižot (black risotto) and Old Town, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Zagreb time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 12 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
