About this tour
This session looks at Musée Fabre from the outside, the courtyard of the former Jesuit college it occupies and the modern glass extension added during a major renovation. You see how the building changed use over centuries and how old stone and new glass were deliberately made to meet rather than hidden from each other. It is a short, architecture-focused look at a building most visitors only pass through on the way inside.
We spend time at the courtyard before moving to the extension, since the contrast between old and new is the point. I answer questions about the building or the collection as they come up. A short note on what is currently on display follows the call.
This suits anyone interested in how buildings get reused over centuries as much as in the art itself. It also works well before or after visiting the collection yourself.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Montpellier before heading out.
-
The former Jesuit college 21 min
The camera looks across the courtyard of the seventeenth century building the museum now occupies, once a college run by Jesuit priests. I explain how the building changed use several times before becoming a museum.
-
The modern extension 21 min
Round the corner, you see where a contemporary glass extension meets the original stone, added during a major renovation. I point out how the join between old and new was handled deliberately rather than hidden.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Montpellier: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Brandade de morue and Comédie, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Paris time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
