About this tour
This session walks Union Street looking at the town centre's older shopfronts, many keeping their original Victorian features above newer signage. You see decorative ironwork above a doorway and a former bank building whose grand entrance survives its change of use. Catriona explains how several of the street's grandest buildings started out as banks.
After a short sound check at one end of the street, the walk moves steadily along at an easy pace, with time for questions throughout. Catriona answers as you go and sends a short note afterwards on which buildings are worth a second look.
It suits anyone interested in how a town centre's older architecture survives beneath modern shopfronts. It also appeals to those who enjoy spotting historical detail on ordinary streets.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
