About this tour

This session follows the cliffs west of Câmara de Lobos to a skywalk viewpoint over five hundred metres above the sea, then drops back down to shore level. You see one of Europe's highest sea cliffs from above and the black volcanic sand below. Tiago explains how the coastline was formed.

The walk moves from the cliff path to the viewpoint and back down to the shore, with Tiago pausing longest at Cabo Girão, where the drop is most dramatic on screen. He keeps commentary light where the view speaks for itself.

This suits viewers drawn to dramatic coastal scenery. It also pairs well with Tiago's fishing village session for a fuller picture of the area.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 7 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Funchal before heading out.

  2. Cliff path 21 min

The camera follows a narrow path along the cliffs west of Câmara de Lobos, with the Atlantic dropping away sharply below.

  3. Cabo Girão viewpoint 21 min

A stop at a skywalk viewpoint looks straight down over five hundred metres to the terraced fields and the sea below, one of the highest sea cliffs in Europe.

  4. Return along the shore 21 min

On the way back the camera drops down to shore level, past small boats pulled up on the stones, and I explain how the black sand here formed from the island's lava.

  5. Your questions 14 min

Time to ask anything about Funchal: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 6 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Poncha and Zona Velha, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Madeira time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 6 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
