About this tour

This session follows Scheunenviertel and the Jewish quarter of Mitte, from the New Synagogue's rebuilt dome to Otto Weidt's workshop courtyard and the Stolpersteine set into the pavement nearby. The camera moves slowly through streets where small memorials sit beside ordinary shopfronts. The guide explains what each one marks and how the district carries its history today.

The call opens with a short sound check, then follows the streets stop by stop, with time built in for questions as they come up. A short list of the names and addresses mentioned goes out by message once the call ends.

This suits anyone interested in twentieth-century history or in how a city remembers difficult periods, whether planning a visit to Berlin or simply curious from a distance. It also suits anyone who wants context before visiting the Stolpersteine themselves.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 7 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Berlin before heading out.

  2. New Synagogue dome 21 min

The gilded dome of the New Synagogue rises over Oranienburger Straße, rebuilt after wartime damage and still marking the street from a distance. The guide explains what remains of the building today and how it is used.

  3. Otto Weidt workshop courtyard 21 min

A quiet courtyard on Rosenthaler Straße once held Otto Weidt's workshop, where a blind and deaf-mute workshop sheltered Jewish workers during the war. Close by, a walled garden marks the site of the old Jewish cemetery on Große Hamburger Straße.

  4. Stolpersteine and Sophienhöfe 21 min

Small brass Stolpersteine set into the pavement carry names and dates, and the guide tells the stories behind five of them before the walk ends in the Sophienhöfe courtyards and the Sophienkirche churchyard.

  5. Your questions 14 min

Time to ask anything about Berlin: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 6 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Döner kebab and Prenzlauer Berg, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Berlin time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 12 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
