The triple spiral staircase of a former convent
Highlights
- Three spirals in a single staircase
- Rural Galician life, on display
- A former convent turned museum
- Engineering rare enough to stand alone
- Objects from before industry arrived
About this tour
This session moves through the Museo do Pobo Galego, focused on its triple spiral staircase and the rural life displays housed in a former convent. You see three separate spirals rising through one shaft and objects that trace Galician life before industry changed it. Iago explains why the staircase is considered a rare piece of engineering in its own right.
The walk starts at the staircase, letting the camera look straight up before moving through the galleries at a steady pace. Iago answers questions about both the architecture and the rural objects on display as they come up.
This suits anyone interested in architecture as much as folk history. It also works well paired with Iago's Fonseca session for two very different sides of Santiago's institutions.

Itinerary
-

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Santiago de Compostela before heading out.
-
Triple spiral staircase 21 min
The camera looks up through a staircase with three separate spirals rising through the same shaft, built inside a former convent and rare enough to have no close match nearby.
-
Rural life galleries 21 min
Inside, displays of tools, costumes and boats show rural Galician life before industry changed it. I explain how the museum's building shapes the way these objects are displayed.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Santiago de Compostela: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Pimientos de Padrón and Zona Nova, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
