The old port and the Ploče gate
Highlights
- An old gate controlling eastern traffic
- A small working harbour, still in use
- Fishing boats among the tourist craft
- A local family's own harbour
- Dubrovnik's working side, on camera
About this tour
This session walks from the Ploče gate down to Dubrovnik's small old harbour, a stretch my own family has used for generations. You see the gate itself, once controlling traffic entering from the east, then the harbour below, where a handful of working fishing boats still moor among the tourist boats. It is a working corner of the old town rather than only a scenic one.
We start at the gate with a sound check, then walk down to the harbour for the second stop, taking questions about the boats and the gate's history. A short note follows once the session ends.
It suits anyone who wants a locals' view of the old town's working side. It also suits an early booking, when the harbour is at its most active.
Included

The camera looks up at the Ploče gate, one of the old town's main entrances, and I explain how it once controlled traffic from the east.

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Dalmatian pršut and Ploče, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Zagreb time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
