About this tour

This session travels slightly outside the old town to see the Puits de Moïse, a monumental carved well from the former Chartreuse de Champmol. You see the grounds where it stands before the camera settles close on the six carved figures around its base. Aurélie, drawing on her art history background, explains why this work became so influential in Burgundian sculpture.

The call opens with a sound check at the grounds, then moves to a close, steady shot of the carvings. Aurélie takes questions throughout and explains the sculptor's technique in detail when asked. A short list of what was shown follows by message afterwards.

This suits anyone with a specific interest in medieval sculpture. It also suits viewers looking for something beyond Dijon's more obvious landmarks.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Dijon before heading out.

  2. Chartreuse de Champmol grounds 21 min

The camera takes in the grounds of the former monastery, now part of a hospital complex, where the carved well still stands. I explain why a functional water well became one of Burgundian sculpture's masterpieces.

  3. Puits de Moïse close-up 21 min

You see the six carved biblical figures surrounding the well's base, weathered but still remarkably detailed. I point out the sculptor's signature technique that made the work so influential.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Dijon: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Boeuf bourguignon and Rue de la Chouette quarter, worth a slower look.

  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 7 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking".
