About this tour

This session moves through the Neues Palais, from the shell-lined Grotto Hall to the Marble Gallery and a set of smaller upstairs apartments. You see decoration built to resemble a cave before the route opens into a long gallery floored in patterned marble. The session finishes upstairs, among painted ceiling details easy to miss on a faster visit.

We begin in the Grotto Hall with a brief sound check, since the stone surfaces carry an echo. I move slowly between the three rooms, since each one rewards a longer look, and take questions on the furnishings and their history throughout. Afterwards I send a short note on the rooms and their dates.

This suits anyone interested in Baroque interiors and court life beyond the palace's exterior. It also works well as a companion session to a walk through the wider park.

Included

  • Live video walk with a local guide

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 7 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Potsdam before heading out.

  2. The Grotto Hall 21 min

The camera moves through a hall lined with shells and semi-precious stones, and I point out how the decoration was designed to look like the inside of a cave.

  3. The Marble Gallery 21 min

We continue into a long gallery floored in patterned marble, and I explain how the room was used for court concerts and formal receptions.

  4. The upper apartments 21 min

The route finishes in a set of smaller rooms upstairs, and I point out the painted ceiling details that most visitors miss on a faster visit.

  5. Your questions 14 min

Time to ask anything about Potsdam: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 6 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Kartoffelsuppe (potato soup) and Nauener Vorstadt, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Berlin time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
