Bologna's medieval skyline, tower by tower
Highlights
- A skyline mostly gone now
- Two survivors among dozens
- A plaque marking a lost tower
- Rooftops read for missing history
- Close detail and wide views together
About this tour
This session traces Bologna's lost medieval skyline through what remains of it today. You see the two surviving towers, a plaque marking a demolished one nearby, and a wider view across the rooftops where dozens more once stood. It moves between close detail and wider views throughout.
We start close on the surviving towers before working outward to the sites of vanished ones, since the contrast is the whole point. I explain why so many came down over the centuries, and take questions as the view opens up.
It suits anyone who wants the fuller, mostly vanished picture rather than just the two towers everyone already knows. It also works as a longer companion to a shorter Two Towers session.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 6 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Bologna before heading out.
-
Two Towers 17 min
The session opens at the two surviving towers, and I explain roughly how many more once stood across the medieval skyline.
-
Former tower site 17 min
At a quieter corner nearby, I point to a plaque marking where another tower once stood before it was pulled down for safety.
-
Wider skyline view 17 min
From a slightly raised street, the camera pans across the rooftops, and I point out where the missing towers would once have broken the skyline.
-
Your questions 11 min
Time to ask anything about Bologna: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 5 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Tagliatelle al ragù and Quadrilatero, worth a slower look.
Good to know

- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
