About this tour

This session follows Port Lympia, from the curved harbour basin to the pastel facades lining one of its quays. You see how the harbour was deliberately planned for trade and why this particular colour palette became standard along the coast. It is a session about a working harbour most visitors only glimpse from a distance.

We move at an easy pace along the quay, pausing longest wherever the colours or the boats are worth it. Questions come in throughout, and I will hold on any detail someone wants a longer look at. A short note on the harbour's history follows the call.

This suits anyone who wants a calmer, more residential side of Nice than the Promenade offers. It also works well as a lighter session after a busier morning in the old town.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Nice before heading out.

  2. The harbour basin 21 min

The camera follows the curved harbour basin, ferries and small boats moored along quays lined with pastel-painted buildings. I point out how the harbour was deliberately laid out in the eighteenth century to serve growing trade.

  3. The pastel terraces 21 min

Along one quay, you see the rows of ochre, pink and pale yellow facades that give the harbour its distinct look. I explain why this particular colour palette became standard along this stretch of coast.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Nice: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Ratatouille and Le Port, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Paris time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 11 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
