About this tour

This session covers the Lavaux vineyard terraces just outside Lausanne, a UNESCO-listed landscape worked continuously since the 11th century. You see the stone walls supporting the vines, the rows themselves with their grape varieties named, and a small village built directly among the terraces. Aurélie, an art historian by training, reads the landscape the way she would read a deliberately composed work.

She moves slowly between the overlook, the vine rows and the village, giving each its own explanation rather than rushing through the slope. Questions about the vines or the stonework are welcome at every stop.

This suits anyone interested in landscape, agriculture or long histories of continuous work. It also works well for anyone who has already seen Lausanne's centre and wants something quieter.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 7 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Lausanne before heading out.

  2. Lavaux Terrace Overlook 21 min

Aurélie stands at a terrace edge, explaining how the stone walls supporting the vines have been maintained since the 11th century.

  3. Vine Rows Close Up 21 min

Moving between rows, the camera catches the vines themselves, with Aurélie naming the grape varieties grown on this particular slope.

  4. Village Among the Vines 21 min

She finishes in a small village set directly among the terraces, its stone houses built from the same material as the walls around them.

  5. Your questions 14 min

Time to ask anything about Lausanne: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 6 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Filets de perche du lac and Ouchy, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Zurich time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 7 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
