About this tour

This session drives out from Evora to the Cromeleque dos Almendres, a megalithic stone circle standing in open countryside and among the oldest in Europe. You see the approach across the field, the low granite stones arranged in their oval pattern, and finally the circle from a wider distance. It is a very different Evora from the stone streets of the old town.

We start with a sound check once I arrive at the site, then move from the approach to the stones themselves and back for a wider view, leaving time for questions at each stage. I send a short note afterwards with what is known and what remains uncertain about the site.

It suits anyone curious about prehistoric Europe and sites far older than Evora's Roman temple. Reaching the field takes some driving beforehand, so the session begins once I am already there rather than showing the journey itself.

Included

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 7 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Evora before heading out.

  2. The approach 21 min

The camera crosses the open field toward the stones, and I explain roughly how old the site is and why so many megaliths cluster in this part of the Alentejo.

  3. The stone circle 21 min

You see the low granite stones arranged in their oval pattern, and I point out the carvings still visible on a few of the closer ones.

  4. The wider field 21 min

We step back to take in the circle from a distance, and I explain how the layout is thought to have aligned with the sun at certain times of year.

  5. Your questions 14 min

Time to ask anything about Evora: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 6 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Queijo de Evora (cheese) and Praca do Giraldo area, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Lisbon time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
