About this tour

This session walks Bruges at eight in the morning, before the day's crowds reach the Markt and Burg squares. You see the postcard canal view at Rozenhoedkaai with the water to yourself, then the whitewashed courtyards of the Godshuizen almshouses. It ends at the Beguinage and the Minnewater lake beside it.

The guide checks sound in the empty square, then walks the route at an early pace, pausing wherever the quiet is worth noticing. You can ask questions throughout about the buildings, the light or how the city changes later in the day. A short list of the stops and their history follows afterwards.

This suits early risers and anyone who prefers a quiet version of a city known for its crowds. It also suits former visitors who only ever saw Bruges at its busiest.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 10 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Bruges before heading out.

  2. Markt and Burg Square 21 min

The camera shows the Markt and Burg squares still nearly empty at eight in the morning, the same buildings that fill with visitors by midday. The guide explains what changes about these squares once the day gets going.

  3. Rozenhoedkaai 21 min

At Rozenhoedkaai the camera holds on the canal view used on most Bruges postcards, quiet with nobody standing in the frame. The guide explains why this exact angle became the city's most photographed spot.

  4. Godshuizen almshouses 21 min

The camera passes a row of Godshuizen, whitewashed almshouses built by medieval guilds for their poorer members. The guide explains how many of these small courtyards still house residents today rather than serving only as museums.

  5. The Beguinage and Minnewater 21 min

The walk ends at the Beguinage, a walled courtyard once home to a lay religious community, then beside the Minnewater lake. The guide explains what a beguine's life looked like inside these quiet walls.

  6. Your questions 18 min

Time to ask anything about Bruges: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  7. A short list to keep 8 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Belgian waffles and Historic Centre, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Brussels time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 12 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
