I am a certified city guide in Bruges since 2012 and I was born about four hundred metres from the Belfry. My father was a boatman on the canals, so I heard the stories from the back of a tour boat long before I told them myself. I know Bruges gets busy. My advice is simple: come early or come late. My main walk starts at eight in the morning, before the day trippers arrive from the coast, when you can hear the swans and the bakers. I speak Dutch, English, French and German. I am direct, I keep time, and I do not do the lace shop stops that some guides get paid for. If you want lace, I will send you to the Kantcentrum, where the old women actually make it. These days I guide Bruges live on video: I walk the streets with my phone and answer your questions as we go.
