About this tour
This session looks at Iceland's national collection from the outside, set within the university quarter that grew up around it through the 20th century. You see the museum's exterior and the surrounding street, with the scope of the collection explained rather than the objects inside it, since the exhibits themselves are ticketed. It stays outdoors, moving at an easy pace.
After a short sound check outside the museum, I walk the street stop by stop, explaining the collection's scope and the quarter's academic history as it comes into view. I take questions live and send a short note afterwards on current exhibitions for anyone planning to visit inside.
It suits anyone interested in archaeology and national history, and anyone deciding whether to visit the museum itself afterwards.

The camera takes in the museum building from the street, and I explain how its collection covers the settlement era through to Iceland's modern independence.

You see the street running past the museum toward the university, and I point out how this quarter became the centre of Icelandic academic life through the 20th century.

- Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
