Perama Cave's stone chambers
Highlights
- A cave found by chance in wartime
- Formations thousands of years old
- Colour caused by mineral content
- One of Greece's larger cave systems
- A quiet, natural change of pace
About this tour
This session moves through Perama Cave's stone chambers, among the largest cave systems in Greece. You see the entrance where it was discovered by chance during wartime and then formations built up over thousands of years, with the shapes and colours explained as we go. It stays within the cave's chambers.
I move slowly through the low light, since the formations need a careful, steady shot to read properly on camera. Questions about the geology come up often, and I answer as much as the science allows.
This suits anyone drawn to natural landscapes rather than only city monuments. It also works well as a change of pace after a day among the castle's history.

The camera enters the first chamber, and I explain how the cave was discovered by chance during the Second World War.
-
Stalactite Formations 21 min
You see formations that took thousands of years to grow, and I point out the different shapes and colours caused by mineral content in the water.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Ioannina: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Epirus pita (savoury filo pie) and Nisi, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Athens time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

Can I ask the guide questions during the session, or is it a fixed script?

How it works
- You get one join link after booking.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
