The lighthouse end of town
Highlights
- A lighthouse marking the coast's turn south
- Cliffs still crumbling after wet winters
- A coastline that has visibly moved
- Why this exact point was chosen
- Biarritz's quieter, cliffside end
About this tour
This short session walks out to Biarritz's lighthouse and back along the cliff path above the surf beach. You see the point where the coastline changes direction and the erosion that keeps reshaping it. It stays focused on geography and a little history rather than the town centre.
We start at the lighthouse itself, since the structure and the view need less explaining once you can see them, then walk the cliff path back toward town. I point out the erosion and the coastline's history as we go. A short note on the coast follows the call.
This suits anyone interested in coastal geography or looking for a quieter walk away from the main seafront. It also works well paired with a surf-focused session on another day.
Included
- Live video walk with a local guide

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Biarritz before heading out.
-
Phare de Biarritz 15 min
The camera looks up at the nineteenth-century lighthouse marking the point where the coastline bends south toward the Spanish border. I explain why this exact stretch of cliff was chosen over other nearby points.
-
Côte des Basques cliff path 15 min
We follow the cliff path back toward the surf beach, the clay ground visibly crumbling in places after wet winters. I point out how much of this coastline has actually moved within living memory.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Biarritz: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Gâteau basque and Saint-Charles, worth a slower look.

- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 9 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
