The former Doges' palace, now open for exhibitions
Highlights
- The former seat of the Doges of Genoa
- A courtyard's political history explained
- A changing exhibition covered on camera
- History and contemporary art in one building
- Genoa's political past made visible
About this tour
This session covers Palazzo Ducale, the former seat of the Doges of Genoa, from its courtyard to whichever exhibition is currently on display inside. You see the courtyard's history explained and a small selection of works from the current show. Marco, a trained sculptor, treats the building's own history as part of the visit.
He starts in the courtyard, giving the palace's political history proper context, before moving inside to the exhibition. He keeps the selection of works small and answers questions throughout.
This suits anyone with an interest in either political history or contemporary exhibitions. It pairs naturally with the Staglieno cemetery session for a fuller range of Genoese art.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
