About this tour
This session reaches Älvsborg Fortress by boat, since the site can only be approached this way, and walks its stone walls. You see the fortress come into view across the water and the walls that defended the harbour entrance through repeated seventeenth-century attacks. Mikael draws on his years running harbour tours to explain the approach itself.
He keeps the boat crossing fairly quiet, letting the fortress come into view gradually, then slows down to walk the walls properly once ashore. Questions about specific attacks or sieges come up regularly, and he answers in detail.
This suits anyone interested in military history and a genuinely different way of seeing the harbour. It pairs with Mikael's calmer second session in Liseberg's original garden.

Welcome and sound check 7 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Gothenburg before heading out.

The boat approach 21 min
The camera films the approach by boat, since Älvsborg Fortress can only be reached this way, and I point out the fortress walls coming into view across the water.

Fortress walls 21 min
Once ashore, the camera follows the stone walls, and I explain how the fortress defended the harbour entrance against repeated attacks in the seventeenth century.
-
View back to the city 21 min
From the fortress you look back across the water to Gothenburg itself, and I explain why the harbour's whole layout depended on this one defensive point.
-
Your questions 14 min
Time to ask anything about Gothenburg: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 6 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Swedish meatballs (köttbullar) and Linné, worth a slower look.
Good to know
- A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
- Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
- Times are shown in Stockholm time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
