About this tour

This session follows the streets of Palma's old Jewish quarter, where almost nothing survives above ground except a few traces if you know where to look. You see a doorway with the mark of a removed mezuzah, a church built over an old synagogue site, and a lane that keeps its medieval name. Most of what I show you depends on reading small details rather than standing landmarks.

Because there is so little left to point a camera at directly, I spend more of the call explaining what used to be there and why. I take questions as they come, since this history raises more of them than most other parts of the city. I move slowly enough that you can look closely at each detail.

This suits anyone interested in the parts of a city's history that do not survive as buildings. It also pairs well with the Arab quarter session for a fuller picture of Palma's earlier centuries.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 7 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Palma de Mallorca before heading out.

  2. Carrer de Monti-Sion 21 min

The street follows the line of what was once the Jewish quarter's main lane. I point out a doorway with a small rectangular groove cut into the frame, the mark left by a removed mezuzah case.

  3. Monti-Sion church 21 min

From outside you can see how the church was built directly on the site of the old synagogue after the community was expelled. I explain what little documentation survives about the building that stood here before.

  4. Carrer del Temple 21 min

The narrow lane keeps its old name from the Knights Templar who once held property nearby. I show you how the street width itself tells you this was a working quarter rather than a wealthy one.

  5. Your questions 14 min

Time to ask anything about Palma de Mallorca: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  6. A short list to keep 6 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Tumbet and Old Town, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Madrid time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
