About this tour

This session follows Rua da Sofia, a straight Renaissance-era street once lined with religious colleges belonging to the university. Teresa stops at a former college facade, now a shop front, pointing out the carved crest still visible above modern signage. She explains why the street was laid out wide and straight, unusual for its period.

Teresa keeps an easy pace along the street, pointing out which buildings kept their original function and which changed entirely over the centuries. She answers questions about the colleges as they come up, drawing on her own background in literature and history. A short note on the street's layout follows the session.

This suits anyone with an interest in urban history and how a street can outlive the institutions that built it. It also pairs well with the university sessions higher up the hill.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
