  • Malta's quietest historic centre
  • Traffic limits that preserved a whole city
  • An unhurried walk through the Silent City

About this tour

This session walks through Mdina's narrow streets, largely free of cars and quiet enough to have earned the city its nickname, the Silent City. You see how the medieval scale of the streets has survived and how different a quiet corner feels from the busier main street. The camera stays on public streets throughout.

I walk at an unhurried pace, since the quiet itself is part of what the session is about, and take questions as we go. I send a short note on the city's population afterwards.

It suits anyone who wants a calmer, more atmospheric walk than a typical old-town tour. It also pairs well with the Bastion Square session at the city's edge.

Included

  • Live video walk with a local guide
  • Questions to your guide all the way

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Mdina before heading out.

  2. A car-free street 21 min

The camera moves down a narrow street free of cars, and I explain how strict limits on traffic have kept Mdina's streets close to their medieval scale.

  3. A quiet corner 21 min

In a quieter corner away from the main street, you see how few people remain inside the walls compared to the crowds passing through by day.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Mdina: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Maltese bread (hobz biz-zejt) and Mdina old city, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Malta time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 8 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
