The old Jewish quarter inside the walls
Highlights
- A street with its medieval width
- Doorways hinting at earlier residents
- A synagogue site, likely but not certain
- History read from layout, not buildings
- The quarter's story, honestly told
About this tour
This session walks the narrow lanes of Segovia's old Jewish quarter, tucked just inside the walls behind the cathedral. You see doorways with small surviving details and a corner marking the likely site of the quarter's former synagogue. Almost nothing else survives above ground, so the session leans on layout and documentation rather than standing buildings.
I move slowly, since this history depends on reading small details rather than pointing at an obvious landmark. I am upfront about what is documented and what is closer to informed guesswork regarding specific sites. Questions here tend to lead into longer conversations than in my other sessions.
This suits anyone genuinely curious about the parts of a city's history that leave little tangible trace. It also pairs well with the walls session for a fuller sense of the old town's medieval layout.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Segovia before heading out.
-
Calle de la Judería Vieja 15 min
The narrow street keeps its medieval width and layout, running close behind the cathedral. I point out doorways with features that hint at the quarter's earlier residents, though little else survives above ground.
-
A quiet corner near the old synagogue site 15 min
The exact site of the quarter's former synagogue is debated, though a small plaque marks one likely location. I explain what is known about the community that lived here before their expulsion.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Segovia: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Cochinillo asado (roast suckling pig) and San Millán, worth a slower look.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
