About this tour

This call covers two of Paris's covered passages, glass-roofed streets tucked behind ordinary facades. Élodie starts in Passage des Panoramas, the oldest surviving example and once the first Paris street lit by gas. She finishes in the more ornate Galerie Vivienne nearby. The session shows a version of the city most visitors walk straight past.

Élodie opens under the older passage's glass roof with a short sound check. She walks at a formal, careful pace toward the second arcade, answering questions about the ironwork and history as they arrive, and sends a short summary once the call ends.

It suits anyone interested in nineteenth-century Paris and its early experiments in urban shopping. It also works well as a rainy-day alternative to an outdoor walk.

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Paris before heading out.

  2. Passage des Panoramas 15 min

The camera moves under the glass roof of the city's oldest surviving covered passage, and Élodie explains how these arcades were the first Paris streets ever lit by gas.

  3. Galerie Vivienne 15 min

A short walk away, the camera passes ornate mosaic floors, and Élodie points out how this passage was deliberately built more luxurious than its older neighbour to attract wealthier shoppers.

  4. Your questions 7 min

Time to ask anything about Paris: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 3 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Soupe à l'oignon and Latin Quarter, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Paris time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
