Craft in the bazaar, domes in the bathhouse
Highlights
- Metalwork and leather, made by hand
- Techniques passed down generations
- Domes built to manage steam and light
- Working craft beside preserved architecture
- The bathhouse, explained structurally
About this tour
This session looks at craft from two very different angles. You see shops in the old bazaar where metalwork and leather are still made by hand, then the domed ceilings of a restored Ottoman bathhouse nearby. It moves between working craft and preserved architecture.
I explain the bazaar's techniques in real detail first, since the tools and methods vary more than they might appear, then focus purely on the bathhouse's domes and their original engineering. Questions about either are welcome.
This suits anyone who prefers hands-on craft alongside older architecture. It also suits anyone who has already seen the bathhouse's art and wants to understand its structure instead.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
