Berlin's techno history, told from outside Berghain
Highlights
- A power station turned world-famous club
- Techno history, told from the street
- Industrial buildings turned smaller venues
- A scene built on old infrastructure
- Berlin's nightlife, explained from outside
About this tour
This session looks at Berlin's techno scene from outside its most famous club, a former power station now known worldwide. You see the large concrete building from the street, tracing its shift from industrial use to nightlife landmark. The session finishes on the surrounding streets, among other former industrial buildings now holding smaller venues and studios.
We open with a short sound check on the street. I walk slowly around the area and take questions about the club's reputation and the wider scene's history throughout. Afterwards I send a short note on the neighbourhood's other venues.
This suits anyone curious about Berlin's nightlife history rather than looking for entry tips. It also works well alongside the RAW-Gelände session for a fuller picture of the scene.

The former power station 15 min
The camera takes in the large concrete building from the street, and I explain its earlier life as a power station before it became one of the world's best-known clubs.
-
The surrounding industrial streets 15 min
We walk the quieter streets nearby, and I point out other former industrial buildings that now house smaller venues and studios.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Berlin: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Currywurst and Kreuzberg, worth a slower look.
Good to know

- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
- Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
- Sessions run in small groups, up to 7 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
