About this tour

This is a planning and explanation call about Madrid's private palaces rather than a live walk past any of them, since most stay closed to the public most of the year. I talk through what is documented about Palacio de Liria and a few similar buildings, using photographs and plans. You leave with real context on buildings you likely cannot simply visit.

We start with whichever palace interests you most, then I work through what is actually known and what access exists, if any. I am careful to separate documented history from rumour, since these buildings attract plenty of both. At the end I send over notes on what is public and what is not.

This suits anyone curious about Madrid's aristocratic history who has struggled to find reliable information. It also suits viewers planning a trip who want to know honestly what they can and cannot see.

Itinerary

  1. Hello, and what you want to know 5 min

The guide calls you and asks what you are after: planning Madrid, recommendations, or just questions.

  2. Palacio de Liria, from what is known 15 min

I talk through what is documented about Palacio de Liria, a private palace still owned by a noble family, using photographs and plans rather than a live view. I explain what limited public access exists and when.

  3. Other private palaces 15 min

I go through a few other Madrid palaces that stay largely closed to the public, what survives of their history and what little can be seen from outside. You can ask about any specific one you have heard of.

  4. Your questions 7 min

Ask anything that is still on your mind, there is no fixed script.

  5. A written note after the call 3 min

You get a short follow-up message with everything mentioned, so you do not have to remember it all.

Good to know

  • A stable phone or internet connection, whichever the guide uses to reach you.
  • No app to install. You answer when the guide calls, or join a video call if you would rather.
  • Times are shown in Madrid time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The call is not recorded. Keep your own note of anything you want to remember, or wait for the follow-up message.
  • Have your questions ready, though there is time to think of more as you go.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
