Two arcades, two centuries apart in style
Highlights
- Two arcades, a century apart in style
- Shopfronts largely unchanged since the 1800s
- One idea, two completely different results
- A community reflected in a single arcade
- Passages that survived while others were demolished
About this tour
This session compares two covered passages built roughly a century apart, tracing how each reflects the era and community that shaped it. Élodie walks from the largely unchanged Passage Jouffroy to the very different Passage Brady nearby. The session shows how the same basic idea, a glass-roofed shopping street, can produce two completely different results.
Élodie opens in the older passage with a short sound check. She walks toward the newer arcade, answering questions about the contrast between them as they arrive, and sends a short summary once the call ends.
It suits anyone interested in how urban spaces change use over time. It also works well paired with the other passages tour for a fuller picture.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Paris before heading out.
-
Passage Jouffroy 15 min
The camera moves past shopfronts largely unchanged since the nineteenth century, and Élodie explains how this passage survived while dozens of similar arcades around the city were demolished.
-
Passage Brady 15 min
A short walk away, the camera passes a very different, more recent arcade, and Élodie points out how its shops reflect a completely different community than the older passages nearby.
-
Your questions 7 min
Time to ask anything about Paris: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 3 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Escargot and Le Marais, worth a slower look.
Good to know

- Times are shown in Paris time, so check the time where you are before you book.
- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.

- Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
