Prado beaches and the gardens of Parc Borély
Highlights
- A beach built from old metro spoil
- Formal gardens around a country house
- Two garden styles side by side
- Marseille's quieter, greener corner
- The city away from its harbour
About this tour
This session moves between the Prado shoreline, an artificial beach built from old metro spoil, and the formal gardens of Parc Borély just inland. You see how the beach was engineered to face and hold its sand, and the contrast between a clipped formal garden and looser planting beyond it. It is a session about the quieter, greener side of the city rather than the harbour.
We spend time at the beach before moving to the gardens, since the change of setting is part of the session. I answer questions about either place as they come up. A short note on the park's history follows the call.
This suits anyone who wants a calmer, more residential side of Marseille. It also works well as a lighter session after a busier morning in the old town.

Itinerary
-
Welcome and sound check 5 min
The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Marseille before heading out.
-
The Prado shoreline 21 min
The camera follows the artificial beach at Prado, built from rubble left after the metro was dug decades ago. I explain why the beach faces the way it does and how the city keeps the sand in place.
-
Parc Borély gardens 21 min
A short distance inland, you walk through the formal gardens of Parc Borély, laid out around an eighteenth century country house. I point out the difference between the clipped French garden and the looser planting further from the house.
-
Your questions 9 min
Time to ask anything about Marseille: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.
-
A short list to keep 4 min
Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Panisse and Vieux-Port, worth a slower look.
Good to know

- The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.

- Sessions run in small groups, up to 11 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work
Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
