About this tour

This session walks the platform of the Templo Romano de Evora, the 1st-century temple whose 14 granite columns still stand in the middle of the old town. You see the columns up close and then the view from the platform edge across the square below. Few Roman temples anywhere survive this complete in the centre of a working city.

We start with a short sound check on the platform, then move column by column before finishing at the edge for questions about how the site survived. I send a short list of names and dates once the session ends.

It suits anyone curious about how ancient structures get absorbed into a living city rather than fenced off from it, and first-time visitors to Evora deciding where to start. The temple's fencing means the columns are viewed from just outside the platform edge, not from among them.

Included

  • Live video walk with a local guide

Itinerary

  1. Welcome and sound check 5 min

The guide joins the video call, checks the picture and sound with you, and gives you a quick sense of Evora before heading out.

  2. The columns 21 min

The camera moves slowly along the 14 granite columns still standing on their raised platform, and I explain how the temple survived centuries by being built into later structures around it.

  3. The platform edge 21 min

We move to the edge of the platform overlooking the square below, and I point out where the old Roman street level sat compared with the city today.

  4. Your questions 9 min

Time to ask anything about Evora: prices, safety, food, or whatever you are curious about.

  5. A short list to keep 4 min

Before you go, the guide sums up with a few things worth remembering: a dish to try: Migas and Praca do Giraldo area, worth a slower look.

Good to know

  • A stable wifi or mobile connection makes the picture smoother than a shaky one.
  • Any phone, tablet or laptop with a camera works. You watch, the guide does the walking.
  • Times are shown in Lisbon time, so check the time where you are before you book.
  • The session is not recorded, and recording it yourself is not allowed. Feel free to take your own notes.
  • Ask questions any time, out loud or in the chat. The guide will pause to answer.
  • Sessions run in small groups, up to 10 people, so there is room for everyone to ask something.

How reviews work

Only travellers who booked and paid through Locals Guide and whose tour took place can leave a review, within 60 days of the tour. Every review is marked "Verified booking". We check reviews before they appear and publish positive and negative ones alike; we remove only reviews that break our rules (insults, personal data, unrelated content). Guides cannot pay for, edit or hide reviews, and ratings are the plain average of all published reviews.
